1956-2017
It was with great sadness that we received the news of the death of our highly esteemed colleague, Anne on 24th March 2017.
Anne started work in Sperrinview as a classroom assistant in 1998, and in her 19 years at school had seldom missed a day, a record she was most proud of. Anne’s attitude to work was exemplary. She was a most consistent and conscientious employee, always working above and beyond expectations. For Anne Sperrinview was not a 9am to 3pm job, it was a way of life. Her commitment to Sperrinview was evident as we look back over photos of extra-curricular events; Special Olympics World Games in Dublin in 2003, many residential trips, the Special Schools’ Annual Formal, all of these saw Anne in attendance, supporting our pupils as they experienced life outside school. Speaking to Anne’s family, the importance and priority she gave to work became clear, acknowledged during her funeral mass as her Sperrinview uniform was brought to the altar as an offertory gift.
Steve Jobs sums up how Anne viewed her work in Sperrinview;
“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life,
and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work.
And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.”
The epitome of professionalism, many have described Anne’s initiative and efficiency as a standard that should be aspired to. She approached every day with enthusiasm, every child with care and compassion and every colleague with respect and dignity. In her years in Sperrinview she was trained in many strategies and came across multiple new initiatives. She greeted these as opportunities to learn and improve her practice. She was particularly skilled at using ICT and teachers were delighted to have Anne working with them as she had it all under control. Sperrinview’s School Motto “Where Pupils Come First” was lived out in the day to day as Anne worked with the children alongside her colleagues.
Anne Jordan was one of a kind. Her presence in the school is sorely missed, her footsteps echo in our corridors, her dignity reminds us of her example and her memory will always be in our hearts.
To her family; husband Patsy, children Elaine, Stephen, Maria and Cathy, mother, brothers and sisters, and her grandchildren we extend our deepest sympathies.
